A Future Factory

By Karen Knapstein

We know this tool has been around for a while, but 3D printers are just getting to become really useful. For the record, we’re really looking forward to one of these that can print food — Star Trek style.

But until then, there are tons of other uses for a printer that creates real objects. For example, instead of stores having to keep a ton of stuff in stock, they can just print things when someone comes in to buy. (It’s already happening with books!) Another cool way to use this tool? Scientists have been able to design organs and use cells to print out a new heart value — for a mouse — but it’s a start.

We want to hear your thoughts, thought. What do you think? Tell us if 3D printers are the NBT!
