A Wired Ride

Are you always crunched for time? Does living your life mean you have to maximize every moment? Or do you just live really, really far from your school?

What if your ride to school came with internet access? With many students spending hours and hours a year on the bus, some school districts are making the efforts to wire their ride to make it easier for students to do research, make plans and work on projects of their own. What’s more, once the bus arrives at a destination — say, an out of town track meet — it can serve as an on-site internet cafe, meaning students and coaches can stay connected while they’re away from school.

So what do you think? Is a rolling study hall the next big thing? Vote in the poll now!

Personally, I picked NO! You guys are probably thinking I am not tech savvy, but IF you are a video game hog(MOST OF US ARE! :) , You might get sucked into a T.V/Minecraft/Roblox/Fantage/AnimalJam/Fiesta/ game of your choosing, and YOU COULD MISS YOUR STOP! I bet that you have seen the episode from Arthur of when he rode the bus, and how did that turn out? BAD! I hope you read my message and check back on what you typed.

YES, I think that is a great idea. I could use my laptop to check emails and do homework. It should really happen. YES! YES! YES!

No, if the bus ever got into an accident it would damage the computers and the connection. Students would actually focus on getting out of school and on the bus to go on the world wide web.

Wifi on the bus would not only allow students to work on school work, but it would likely cut down on accidents caused be distracting kids.

As a school district that covers a large area, this could come in handy with students to study or finish their homework. Mr. D’s 7th Grade ELAII Class

We need to have WiFi on the bus so people without phones can communicate with others and entertain themselves.

With wifi on buses, students can early call 911 if theres an emergency and can also get homework done if they don’t have wifi at home.

The next big thing is awesome people have long bus rides so it is cool to have wifi on buses so we could do homework and projects

The idea is ridiculous. Schools should focus funds on projects more important than “moving study halls”.

I think it would help a lot to have wifi on buses because you can finish your homework so you don’t have to stay up all night doing it.

I think it’s be a good idea because some kids don’t have wifi at home so it’d be nice to have at least 20-30 minutes of being able to be on the internet.

I think that bus’s need wifi because some kids need to talk to the parents, or they want to go on the internet for instints if my bus had internet I would go on Facebook.

I don’t think wifi on buses should be the next big thing because it could somehow distract the bus drivers and that would be bad.

Yes, because finally we could be able to do homework on the go and not have to wait to get home or school to get that google docs essay finished!

I actually think that WI-fi on buses is a bad idea. schools already spend a lot on transportation and putting WI-fi on a bus just wastes more of the schools money.

I was also reading through some of the other comments and
@Brook Genrich-If kids do not have WI-fi at their house, why would they have a handheld device?

This is the next big thing, people talking and bullying distracts the bus drivers which makes the bus drivers look up and could get in a crash which could hurt other passengers. A wired ride could lead to a joyful ride.

That is the best thing because most of the people wouldn’t be loud and the bus driver wouldn’t have to look and make sure the students are being bad.

I think it’s a bad idea because then kids don’t communicate with each other. Plus this could atart really bad cyber bullying.

I do not think that this is the next big thing because kids won’t learn anything because they would not do there homework at home like they are supposed to do Ndthey would cheat and do their home work on the bus

I think it is a good ideal but some kids are not going to like it because what ever the school blocks it blocked it on there phone what every they are on so some people are not going to like that

I know its a good idea if you ride the bus it gets boring just siting there waiting of your stop. its a bigger possibility to fall asleep to school just doing nothing but with this they might not and the driver could disconnect them before there stop :)

instead of playing for gaming or social media purposes u people should be looking out side see if your house is near you could do all that at home!!!!

It is way too hard to write on the bus with all the bumps and with all the things blocked with the school internet nothing will even work and lastly the internet would be super slow with all the kids on it

  29. Ayrion-Abraham

I dont think buses should have wifi. It is school wifi, so a lot of things are blocked on it. If thats the case, then school wifi is no different. and if everybody on the bus, all 30+ kids, used it, It would be really slow and choppy

    YEAH!!!!
All the time when riding in the school bus I have had times when I have stuff to do for school. Plus when we go on long trips or sports events we could be busy doing stuff on the internet and not causing havoc for the teachers/bus driver!

no because the buss can cause your computer to break. I would not take my expensive computer on the bus. someone might steel it from me or beat the person up not a good idea……………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

No, because everybody would want to be on instagram, facebook. or twitter now a days with the school wifi you cannot get on any of those!

I say yes, but honestly I say yes and no. Bus drivers would focus more on the road instead of controlling the kids on the bus. Kids would be under control instead of being up and down just yelling. The kids would be more interested in Facebook and Twitter instead of getting interested in seeing a fight. However, when kids are on the bus they might not pay attention. They might miss a stop bus or something. And when kids are in school they might focus on just wanting to get on the bus and do whatever they want on the phone. They might loose focus and attention in school. Everyone knows that education is important in making a living.

I think wifi should be on buses because students stay up late with homework then are tired during school if they had wifi on buses they could get homework done and be able to go to sleep earlier then usual and then pay attention during school = better grades

I would love for this to happen in my school! It would be amazing to just sit back and get on my iPod touch 4th gen. to get on safari or my other apps and do whatever I wanted! I think that this would be amazing! Besides, some people would be able to use the internet to help them with a project or homework, so this would be a good way to finish something important if you were busy and had something important due the next day.
