About Channel One News: Advisory Board
Updated: June 09, 2009
We are pleased to announce a new Channel One Advisory Board comprised of educators spanning a wide array of positions and curriculum disciplines.
David, Principal in North Dakota
Giving students the opportunity to succeed is the hallmark of this Harley-riding principal. He lets students know he cares and gets great satisfaction from seeing the twinkle in the eye of a student who accomplishes something. Father of three, grandfather of two, dedicated husband and caring principal-- all are facets of a man who possesses a winning way with young people.
Emily, Media Technology Teacher in Texas
Emily teaches at the same school she attended as a teen and it has come to feel like home to her. One of her favorite things about teaching is encountering former students who found success after applying lessons learned in her class to their own lives. Emily finds it gratifying to know her life's work has had such a positive, life-long impact on the young people in the community she cares so much about.
Jim, High School Teacher in Iowa
A creative, articulate broadcast and print journalism teacher, Jim finds the process of watching young people mature into caring adults both rewarding and humbling. Jim nurtures young people at work and at home-- his is a foster/adoptive family comprised of six children ranging in ages from 1 1/2 to 30 years old.
Kay, Media Specialist in Florida
A passionate advocate of using video in classrooms to better serve the needs of today's students, Kay has been called upon to present technology utilization talks at many educational conferences in her 36 years as a teaching professional. What's more, her four children, now grown, grew up with Channel One!
Kelly, History Teacher in Arizona
Strongly committed to students understanding the ideals on which America was founded, Kelly is a teacher on a mission to have students look to our shared past to better shape a bright future. Kelly's life gives new meaning to the term "multi-tasking": he spends time with his blended family of five children, takes students on a U.S. History trip every summer, and he's even writing a book on the history of his hometown.
Paula, Library Media Teacher in Utah
To Paula, information is power and she is tenacious about imparting as much information as possible to the students under her care. She decided in second grade that she wanted to be a teacher when she grew up, and hasn't looked back since. Paula takes pride in helping students find answers to their questions and, on the home front, is quite proud of her cooking skills, husband, two children, and Zoe-- the family's yellow lab.
Randy, Middle School Teacher in Louisiana
"Truth is discovered through knowledge" is a core belief for Randy, and his 11-year career as an educator is a testament to that. Randy is a talented writer and avid documentary film fan as well as a dedicated teacher. He is active in his community and believes his students will make the world a better place.
Roy, Video Production Teacher in California
Roy is a self-described news junkie, political hound and voracious reader of non-fiction and biographies. "Reading is like breathing," he told us, and we couldn't agree more. A father of four grown children and a veteran educator for 38 years, we are glad to have him on board.
Sonya, High School Media Specialist in Georgia
"I like teenagers," Sonya says, and she really does seem to have an uncanny ability to understand their highs and lows. She instinctively knows how to motivate the young people in her life. Mother of two grown daughters (one is a teacher in the same school!), and grandmother of five, Sonya is a dynamic educator who approaches every relationship and endeavor with passion and commitment.
Tami, Guidance Counselor in Oklahoma
Tami deeply believes every student has the potential to contribute something unique to the world, so she listens to students seeking her counsel in order to help guide them to reaching and exceeding their potential. With 1 1/2-year-old twins at home, this active and lively educator has young people filling her days and nights-- and that's just the way she likes it.
