Behind the Scenes at the Mountain School
In which I meet a llama, talk "Hunger Games" with a guy and his bear skin rug, attempt my best Paul Bunyan impression and get treated to a Mountain School food taste test. Watch the videos to find out what I'm talking about.
Live Chat: The Underground Railroad
On Tuesday's show, you saw my trip on a mock underground railroad and got a look at what it might have been like to be an escaping slave, but there was a lot you didn't see on the show, and you probably have a few questions about the experience. That's why I'll be here on Wednesday, February 6th, at 3 PM EST to answer those questions and talk more about the experience. You can also post your questions in advance and I'll try to answer those too.
Behind the Scenes: SchoolJam USA
Yep, I went to Disneyland!It
was a more than a much welcomed break from the freezing cold weather in
New York (it snowed the day we left) -- NAMM’s School Jam USA!I've
seen some talented teen bands perform in my day but these groups were
just good as any professional band of adults. The rain held off as the
bands played
for over three hours – giving it their all. It was like a mini music
festival. No matter what kind of music you like, there was something
there for you: jazz, pop, rock, punk, even a little classical. The event was all about young people living their dreams, right now. Does it get any better than that!?The winners, Ergo We Play, shot a video the next morning and we’ll be sure to get you a link as soon as its finished, but for now, check out some shot of the show in the slideshow below.

I have to be totally honest. Surveying Sandy
When I woke up this morning after the big storm came to hang out, I decided to see what state my neighborhood was left in. We were one of the lightest-hit areas in New Jersey, just west of the Hudson River. The power in my house was still out, so I figured I didn't really have anything better to do.
Take a look at what I woke up to. It's nothing compared to other areas, though.
HIN First Look: Black Box Revelation
Channel One's Here It Now band Black Box Revelation dropped by the studio a couple of weeks ago for an acoustic performance. I also got the chance to chat with them and ask a few questions about what it was like to be performing here in the states. The guys hail from Brussels, Belgium and take rocking out very seriously...er I mean they are serious about their music!
Check out more from Black Box Revelation, including the one thing they find themselves doing every time they get home from a long tour, in the video below!
Run, Ruunn... Ruuuunnn.....!
Never did I think the horrors were true, until we set foot on the grounds of the Run For Your Lives Zombie 5k, in Butler, Pennsylvania. As we approached the field that had been transformed by incredible team of volunteers and staff members the reality set in that we were in for a totally immersive experience.
And man...was it ever. Blood, body parts, and an eerie fog were everywhere as we pulled in just as dawn broke.
As you can see from the videos the track is packed with zombies and other runners. There were about 750 zombies that day and over 5,000 runners. Sounds crazy right? Well compared to their larger runs it’s a drop in the bucket. San Diego and Boston both had over 20,000 runners and two days of events.
Now, I’ve seen plenty of zombie movies and since the black guy always dies, I went to some experts to get some advice. They told me I needed to remember a few simple things to stay alive:
1. Stay in a group! No need to face a Zombie horde alone.
2. Try not to think too much about the best course of action and just act. (I felt like this one was a trick.)
3. Speed is your ally and your enemy. It may get you past one group but directly into the bloody hands of the next group.
4. Above all else have fun. No real zombies are actually at the race today. (But how would they know until it was too late?)
Check out some of the interesting characters we met along our journey of death and back in the videos and slideshow below.
Candidate Profile: Dr. Jill Stein
When you think of the presidential election you typically think of two parties, right? Republican and Democratic, but those aren't the only two parties in this presidential election. You might guess the third...it's a color, like grass...YUP! The Green party. You won't see any commercials, some states won’t even their candidates’ names on the ballot but every presidential election the Green party presents a presidential candidate just like the big two. This year, you might not have guessed that Roseanne Barr (yea, from the show Roseanne in the 90’s) actually ran as a potential candidate for the presidency. She lost to Jill Stein, a physician from Boston. Stein named Cheri Honkala as her Vice Presidential running mate.
The Green party and its candidates focus on environmentalism and solving problems with grass-roots effort. Members of the party also see a major flaw in the current two-party system. Greeners (as they call themselves) believe that a two-party system just simply does not allow the opportunity to really address the issues of our country. Kind of like if there were only two judges on the American Idol, if neither party is willing is willing to agree, how would we decide whose album we will soon forget about?
Stein herself was born and grew up outside of Chicago, but now lives in Lexington, Massachusetts. She ran for Governor there in 2002 and 2010. She advocates a plan she calls a "Green New Deal" (named after Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal Solution to the Great Depression) which would include support for renewable energy jobs, a 30% reduction in the U.S. military budget, and an increase in taxes on capital gains, offshore tax havens and mufti-million dollar real estate.
