image: Thoughts on the Grammys The GRAMMY nominations have been announced!

This will be the 54th annual GRAMMY awards to be celebrated.

54th annual, boys and girls. 50 + years in which the music industry has recognized artists in categories such as Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Best New Artist. Wednesday night was the GRAMMY Nominations Concert -- hosted by LL Cool J and including performances from some of the nominated musicians.

Lady Gaga, Rihanna (via satellite), Common, Lupe Fiasco, The Band Perry, Sugarland, Jason Aldean, Ludacris, and Usher all took part. There were also tributes to Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five (who were inducted into the 2012 GRAMMY Hall of Fame) and deceased songwriters Nick Ashford and Jerry Leiber.

My favorite of these was the Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five tribute performance of "The Message." Grandmaster Flash (Joseph Saddler) grew up in the Bronx (my hometown) and as a native Bronxite, I’m a huge fan and am excited that they are finally getting the recognition they deserve. I have to say there was not a lot of surprises when it came to who was nominated this year. Adele, received a well deserved six nominations. Bruno Mars and Foo Fighters also received a total of six nominations, and Kanye West received seven.

Since I listen to most, if not all the artists nominated, from Adele and Mumford and Sons to Nicki Manaj to Foster the People, it will be interesting to see who wins this year.

Soooo, do you know where Hear It Now will be on Music’s biggest night of the year? I'll be at home in front of the television dressed up in my finest sweats watching the big show.

Who are you excited to see win?!

image: HIN First Look: Mat Kearney There are many reasons to love Hear It Now artist Mat Kearney.

His lyrics, his laid back style, even his sweet soulful voice. But I think my favorite is how nice he is! Mat Kearney is what you might call
"salt of the earth." Recently, Mat stopped by the Channel One clubhouse to play an acoustic version of "Hey, Mama" for me and some of the other Channel One folks.

Not only did he politely ask for coffee (no sugar, no milk) he was totally down for an impromptu interview.

After the jam session I was lucky enough to attend Mat’s concert at Webster Hall in New York City.

I usually don't like to play favorites, but I can't recommend Mat Kearney and his music enough. Look out for the video from his time at the studio soon -- he has some great advice for those of you hoping to break into the music biz.

image: HIN First Look: Keep Your Head Up Last night I got to see Andy Grammer live on stage. The Times Square theater where he performed was an amazing venue -- there was so much energy, so many people and so many sounds. I knew as soon as I walked in I was in for a treat. It was a packed house full of all types of fans waiting to hear Andy Grammer and headliner Colbie Caillat.

Andy was so excited to be on stage I think if he could he would have jumped into the crowd. He was that happy to perform for us...and particularly to be playing in New York (which he mentioned was his hometown). He even played his own version of Empire State of Mind. The crowd went crazy over this and really just crazy over Andy. The audience showed their enthusiasm singing along, clapping, and all out dancing. It was a party.

The rest of the set included Fine By Me, The Pocket, Miss Me, a cover of Maroon 5’s Sunday Morning, Biggest Man in LA, Ladies, Love Love Love, Lunatic, and Keep Your Head Up. All were crowd-pleasers.

After his set he took the time out to meet his fans and sign autographs. He took pictures with his own camera and asked that everyone tag themselves on his Facebook page. Bassist Zach and drummer Mike also hung out and chatted with fans.

I am so glad I was able to attend the concert since I wasn't able to meet him at CBS studios with Kristen Brody (she's in the pic with the camera), who shot an upcoming pop quiz with Andy and an acoustic rendition of Keep Your Head Up. That video will be available soon -- for now -- you can watch his official video for the song right here.

image: HIN First Look: The Aviation Orange I love music, all types of music. I prefer to listen to my music loud while I strut through the streets of NYC. Rain, sleet, snow, hail; you will not find me without my iPod and my headphones, but hey it’s part of my job -- I coordinate the bands on Hear it Now. Which is why today as part of my job I get to hang out behind the scenes with new and upcoming artists The Aviation Orange during their Hear It Now shoot.

Blondie, New Order, The Beatles, Billie Holiday, Elvis, Metal, Pop, Jazz, 80’s, 90’s hip hop, Kate, Josh, Mike, Cherie, and Alex; what do they all have in common? Well they make up the essence of what is The Aviation Orange. Kate, Josh, Mike, Cherie, and Alex, members of The Aviation Orange, have been together for over a year now and jest with each other the way siblings and childhood friends do. They came to our studio at the CBS Broadcast Center to do a mini acoustic set and answer questions about who they are, what they stand for, their musical influences, and even what karaoke song they love to sing. For the scoop on all that, you'll have to wait for their official debut on the show and on the site in a few weeks.

For now, you should know that they are fun, quirky, and can make you laugh along with them. What blew me away about them is how extremely talented they all are, each and every one. Hearing them perform live in studio was better than any other version I’ve heard of them. If only I could carry live versions of them in my pocket and have them sing to me when I wanted to hear them, life would be grand! Alas, the .mp3 version of them on my iPod will do….
