Butterfly Boucher

When Butterfly Boucher moved to the U.S. from Australia in 1998 to pursue her music career, she moved to Nashville, Tennessee — where she still resides.

“For the longest time I never told people where I lived,” Boucher said in a phone interview, “People always just assumed I played country music.”

Nashville’s ever-growing music scene turned out to be the perfect spot for Boucher’s career since it’s more affordable than the east or west coast, and full of many great artists, producers and bands. Boucher said she feels “really proud” to be a part of such an eclectic music community where she can write, produce and perform her indie alternative style.

“I’m involved in every aspect of the music,” said Boucher as she talked about spending time in her own studio, preparing artwork and managing her social networking sites like Twitter and Facebook. “There’s always something for me to do,” she added. Currently she’s working on her next album and performing. “It’s fun and exciting to be in front of a crowd — you live for that moment, but it’s a small part of what I do.”

For Butterfly Boucher, being a musician was a way of life growing up with her six sisters. Raised by her “rock and roller” father and a mother who danced ballet, she was always surrounded by talent and inspiration, learning to play many different instruments and write music. Even the way she was named signifies the enriching atmosphere of her childhood.

After her older sister Rebecca came home crying after school because there were two other girls with the same name, their parents decided to give their future children unique names — Butterfly, Sunshine, Eden, Angel and Harmony soon followed. Boucher’s mom received three signs in the form of a dance teacher’s outfit, a song on a record and a painting, the week before she had to officially name Butterfly for her birth certificate.

So, it seems in the Boucher household, things came naturally, in names and in music, “It’s what I’ve always done,” she said. “I never sat down and made a decision about it.”

Butterfly Boucher just released her latest album, Scary Fragile. Her music has been featured on TV shows like Grey’s Anatomy, among others.

Lyrics for "To Feel Love"
Words and Music Butterfly Boucher

Don't make me say it, you don't wanna hear it.
I held it in, in the hope my heart could change.
You say you're not, but you seem so certain.
I'm really sorry but I just don't feel the same.
You can pin all the blame on me.

'cause I want to feel love.
Real Love.
Deep down love.

Don't try to shatter all my hopes in true love.
Don't try to tell me that there's no such thing as The One
I understand, I understand clearly
It doesn't happen like it happens in the movies
I'm aware, I've been there, I don't care, I'm a dreamer

And I wanna feel love.
Real love.
Deep down love.

While I was gone all my friends got married
Who's fooling who, I don't wanna die a lonely soul
I've got time but I'm not gonna lie to you

That I want to feel love
Real love
Deep down love

I wanna feel love.
Real love, Real love.
I wanna feel love.
Real love, True love.
True love, true and foolish love.
Real love, true love.

Lyrics for "I Found Out"
Words and Music Butterfly Boucher

I found out I can only be who I am
I can only do what I can
I won't try to describe the relief.
And the rush, where did the panic and the racket begin?
I swear I don't remember letting them in,
How could this possibly be happening.

Please slow down, we don't need to be anywhere but here.
Please slow down, I miss it when your heart's not around.
Please slow down, slow down.

I found out I can only be who I am
I can only do what I can
I won't try to describe the relief.
And the rush, where did the panic and the racket begin?
I swear I don't remember letting them in,
How could this possibly be happening.

Please slow down, we don't need to be anywhere but here, tonight.
Please slow down, I miss it when your heart's not around.
Please slow down, slow down.

I'm going seeking, hoping to find all the raptures you're hiding.
Please slow down, I miss it when your heart's not around.
Please slow down, tonight.

Lyrics for "For the Love of Love"
Words and Music Butterfly Boucher

Oh I Do, I try to.

For the love of love and for the love of loving's sake
Take all the ones you fear and take all the ones you hate
cook a hardy stew flash a smile and fill their plates
why is it so simple
why is it so hard to say

then sing it
Oh I Do, I try to.

For the love of love and don't delay for goodness sake
Take all the one you trust and take all the ones you hold so dear
pass around the wine drink it up shed a tear
why is it so simple
why is it so hard to say

then sing it
Oh I Do, I try to
Oh I do, I love you
Oh I Do, I try to

Oh I've got to push, push myself
Oh I must be brave to say the words

Oh I do, I love you
