Do You Wanna Put a Label On It?

feature-image-your-turn-gmo-food-labels

On this week’s show, Maggie Rulli gave you the scoop on G.M.O.s (ICYMI, that stands for genetically modified organisms) in food. It’s a big controversy, with valid arguments — and facts! — on both sides of the debate.

For some, a partial solution is to label foods that include G.M.O. ingredients, allowing consumers to make their own decisions about what to buy. But some food companies argue that the labels would create confusion, laws would be difficult to enforce and actually make consumers unnecessarily fearful of their products.

We want to know where you stand. Vote in the poll and tell us if you think more states should pass laws requiring the labels, then leave a comment explaining why. If you’d like your response to be used on the show, make sure to include your first name (only!), age and state.

I think yes and no. Yes because people want to know what were eating. And also No because even when it is labeled not very many people will buy it.

I vote no, because if people label the foods with GMOs they might worry about what it might do to them and they could possibly boycott the food with GMOs in it, leaving only very little 100% organic food. This is coming from a 12 year old in sixth grade at Paducah Middle School.

I vote yes, because people have the right to know what they are eating, and until we know whether it’s safe or not, it should either be labeled GMO or not sold in stores. Places like Sprouts could stock up on more organic food than they already have. This is coming from an 11 year old in sixth grade at Western Center Academy.

(I mean no offense to your opinion, and respect it 100% Blake. I am simply having my opinion. This is an example of constructive criticism.)

I personally think yes, they should because people might like Gmo as strange as it sounds I mean you never know. See you guys got to look at the bright side instead of the negative side people might prefer Gmo because they like the taste of it or they think its better quality. They probably think they just got to know so they can buy the Gmo instead of the non Gmo food items. Maybe the people who don’t like Gmo will boycott, but still I honestly think that you can’t go a long time with no Gmo food items because of the fact that most of our food is Gmo related. I also heard that if you eat Gmo foods, it may give your children in the future some dysfunctions that is false over the past, there has been no complains, concerns, or that ever happening, but I can say that most likely they will probably not label the food products because of this whole chaos and the fact that people might decide to boycott and that will lead to less money witch will cause them to close down the stores because of bankruptcy and it will go all down hill from there thank you for your attention and have a nice day!

A lot of people are for it or against it but I think there is a third option. My third option is that the foods with GMO that passed all tests wouldn’t have to be labeled but the ones that had a few minor problems could be labeled.

They need to be MOST DEFINITLEY labeled!!! We want to know what we’re eating. Why would you genetically modify God’s creation? He already made it the best it could be. PLUS, GMOs have been proven harmful. They’ve given rats cancer and tumors, and bugs immediately die from biting into GMO corn. That’s just too risky. And even if you are a strong believer in them not being harmful, we can agree that genetically modifying food is too huge not to label. :D

If people dont want to have gmo foods they have the right to know. They have the right to look it up themselves. Producers shouldnt have to put labels on food that could potentially scare customers when the people who dont want GMOs in there food are perfectly capable of looking up where their food is coming from on there own.

I Like how we are using GMOS but they should at least put a sticker on any of the foods because most people want to know what is in their food. Most people could get sick from the different things in the foods. Like fish DNA in a strawberry. I don’t like how we are entering foods into our body that we don’t know what they have inside of them. So let’s start putting stickers on these foods so we know!

I do believe it should be labeled because some people might be very concerned with what is being put into their food and what they are actually eating. Some people may want the natural food not food created to just “look attractive.” Some chemicals used to genetically modify food can be possibly dangerous to them. Just label it and satisfy the people and give them what they want.

If there are no risks whatsoever, and I mean no risks at all, then I do not think that there is any problem with not labeling genetically modified foods. The only reason that people should absolutely have to know is if potential health risks were present. All the labels would do is cause unnecessary fear in people who believe that they could get sick from these foods.

I think companies should label their food products because we need to know what is in our foods. If their were dangerous things in our foods that we didn’t know about could cause people to get sick with worse diseases or diseases that we did not have before which could cause problems in our economy. I also think that they should do more extensive testing on the foods so we can prevent new, strange maybe dangerous things could be introduced into our society. This is why I think GMO’s should be labeled.

I think that foods that are genetically modified should not be labeled. The reason because it will be a good lesson for people who are picky with their foods to know that not all genetically modified foods aren’t really that bad. Some one them are really good for your health too.

I think GMO foods should be labeled. If people want to know what they are eating, let them know! There is no reason not to label that it has been tampered with. People might not want to eat GMO foods, and they should have the choice on seeing what their options are for GMO foods versus regular.

It is important to know what we are consuming. Even though there have been tests on GMO’s they haven’t been extensive. We don’t know what the long term effects are or what they will do to our bodies.

I Strongly think G.M.O.s should be labeled why do we not have a right to know what’s in our food. Besides at this rate G.M.O. manufacturing companies might need to spend more money trying to stop G.M.O. labeling than they may profit from sales. G.M.O.s will be needed to be labeled in the future it’s just a matter of time.

I think that people should know what they are eating no matter what someone says. Why would these people eat something if they have know clue what is in it, it is not fair! Why would a company pay tens to millions of dollars on keeping GMOs rather than just telling the people what’s in their food, it’s ridiculous! I will keep watching your show for more details.

I think that gmo food should be labeled because people should know what they are eating. The companies should tell the people what has been done to their food rather than not telling them and trying to put all the gmo food and non-gmo food together in the grocery store.

I think the food should be labeled because the public wants to know what goes into their food. The only negative to this decision effect the companies marketing the genetically modified food. The public, however, has every right to know exactly what they are consuming.

I think that GMO foods should be labeled because the consumer needs to be fully informed about what they are putting into their own body. If the consumer doesn’t know what is going into his or her body, he or she may be harmed.

Well, they do label organic foods. And if we are to believe the logic behind the food industry then It would seem that labels are necessary. Let me give you a example.

Lets say you are shopping in the supper market and you want a can of corn, Well then Now imagine going through the super market where each Isle is categorized by the type of food it is. Ok now Imagine you want something specific like cream corn. Unfortunately for you, all you have to work with is the corn section so now you have to go up and down isles shaking cans of unknown next to your ear and hoping that you manage to find your precious cream corn.

and that is why the label is necessary, Because if some people want natural they shouldn’t have to put in the extra effort that the food company is supposed to do. Not to mention that there could be allergies associated with the GMOs as they have been called.

I think yes, because people have the right to know what they’re eating. It may affect the sale of the food, but if that’s the person’s choice, it’s their choice. People would be even more upset about it if they find from some source that they’ve been eating something they didn’t want to.

I definitely think yes, we need to label GMO foods! I feel that we all need to know what we are consuming and putting into our bodies. Just think about all of the chemicals you are inserting into your body when eating foods with GMO. Even saying Genetically Modified Organisms gives me the shivers! Half the time we eat different foods we may not even know if they are GMO or not on behalf of not having labels. Nothing may be happening now, but no one knows the effects it might have on our bodies 20 years from now.

Yes, GMO foods should be labeled because, as buyers, we should be able to know what we are eating. Also, having “riots” all over America isn’t very settling and if we put GMO labels on these foods it would put an end to it.

I think that the foods with G.M.O. should be labeled because we should know what we are eating. I also agree with the no side. Some people will change what they eat because of the labels and because of that, some companies to shut down. The companies would shut down because they don’t have enough money.

I believe that they should be lable because people should have the right to know what there eating and what goes into their system. They should have the right to know weather you are eating food that is not poisoned. Typically poison is dangerous so you wold think that it would be bad for you. Companies that don’t label are afraid to label because they are scared that if they do people won’t buy there stuff anymore.

Yes, food companies should have to put a lable on their foods that have GMOs in them so that when you are buying foods, you are knowing what you’re eating and what you are putting in your body. If you are eating or buying foods with GMOs in them, the GMO’s may take away from the nutrition especially opposed to buying organic food which contains more nutrition than foods that have GMOs in them.

Gmo’s are controversialy viewed to me. I can see why people tried to modify plants to help our farms be more productive, but the effects on our balanced ecosystems dont seem worth it. In the future, i can see people in poverty and other food lacking people benefit from a more advanced gmo community that isnt harmful to the world.

GMO’S should be labeled, they are killing your body very slowly and is making your body more like bug spray than anything and making you become less human every time you eat them. Also have you been wondering why bee’s are going instinct it is because of gmo’s in the flowers it kills the bee’s off my one by one. so the more you have them do gmo’s you are killing you and the environment! How do I know, me and my family are all organic and we have a program and some part of the state has the same program call Mom’s across America, and we say LABEL GMO’S AND STOP MONSANTO!! They are mad news to you and everyone around you.
