If you’ve ever visited a kindergarten classroom, you might have noticed the kids making a beeline for the sand and water table. You also may have wanted to join them. They’re just fun!
Can you imagine how much they would be if they also had a tech component? That’s just what the Augmented Reality Sandbox is. It was created by scientists at UC Davis who wanted to find an interesting way to teach people about topography — the study of the earth’s shapes and features. By combining a sandbox with a Kinect 3D Camera and Projector, you can build your own landscape. The school plans to install the tables in science museums around the country to help people understand how water flows and lakes and rivers form.
What do you think? Can you wait to get your hands dirty in this new kind of sandbox, or will you pass on this one? Vote now!
