In exactly one week I leave for Afghanistan. I'll be embedding with US Marines for two weeks. I oscillate between the "I'm so excited I can't wait for this trip" to "I'm totally scared/what am I doing/why did I agree to this" state of mind.
Needless to say it was not for the faint of heart. We’d spend most morning in class. The afternoons were spent testing out what we learned by recreating these situations. So for the amputee day, we had to bandage up our teachers who had fake blood spurting out of them as fake gun shots were fired at us and fake bombs were exploding in the distance.
