Carnation
The January birth flower has a colorful past with symbolic origins among Greek and Christian traditions. According to some, the name coronation comes from the word "coronation" or "corone," a type of flowered garland worn on a crown.
Others believe carnations originated when Jesus was put on the cross and where his mother Mary's tears fell, the flowers blossomed. Given these royal and liturgical connections, the flower represents fascination, distinction, gratitude, love and admiration.
