Now that all of the major Oscar contenders are out of the way and the Sundance Film Festival is winding down, January is a time for feel good movies that will keep you snuggled next to your popcorn in a warm theater, transporting you to a new place. So, sit back, forget about the droll of New Year's resolutions and the long stretch of Spring Fever ahead. And, before you spend your hard-earned cash on a movie ticket, check out our Flick Pick, Inkheart.
Exploring one fantasy world inside another, Inkheart (PG-13), which comes out January 23rd, is an adventure for all ages. Filled with the magic of Harry Potter and the charm of Roald Dahl's Matilda, the film stars Brendan Fraser as "Mortimer 'Mo' Folchart," Eliza Hope Bennet as his daughter "Meggie," Sienna Guillory as her mother "Resa," along with a host of other actors like Paul Bettany and Oscar winners Helen Mirren and Jim Broadbent.
Inkheart, based on the Inkworld trilogy, by German author Cornelia Funke, follows the adventures of a 12-year-old girl (Bennet) and her father (Fraser) who share a love for books and soon find themselves tangled in a world where imagination and reality intertwine. Gifted with a magical talent of bringing storybook characters to life, they also suffer from its biggest drawback: for each fictional character that becomes real, a real person is transported into a book.
