Here in the U.S., we have all kinds of songs, movies, and sayings that celebrate girls and women. (Who run the world!?) But in other countries, “girl power” is condemned, and females aren’t treated with the same kind of respect.
That’s why the United Nations started the International DAY OF THE GIRL– it’s a movement that encourages global groups to “highlight, discuss, celebrate, and ultimately advance” the lives of girls worldwide.
We’ll be celebrating girl power all day long, so here are ten songs to pump us all up:
“Run The World” – Beyonce
“Girl On Fire” – Alicia Keys
“Stronger” – Kelly Clarkson
“I Will Survive” – Gloria Gaynor
“Just A Girl” – No Doubt
“Respect” – Aretha Franklin
“Independent Women” – Destiny’s Child
“Can’t Hold Us Down” – Christina Aguilera
“Girls Just Want To Have Fun” – Cyndi Lauper
“I’m Every Woman” – Whitney Houston/Chaka Khan
Crank them up, do something positive for girls around the world, and join me at the She’s the First TWITTER PARTY at 5pm EST.
Happy DAY OF THE GIRL!
