How the Dow Jones industrial average did Friday

The Dow Jones industrial average gained Friday as investors stayed upbeat, pushing U.S. stock indexes further into record territory. Stocks climbed to all-time highs for the third straight day as investors assessed the prospect for further economic stimulus from the Federal Reserve.

The Dow gained 85.48 points, or 0.5 percent, to close at 15,961.70.

The S&P 500 index rose 7.56 points, or 0.4 percent, to 1,798.18.

The Nasdaq composite climbed 13.23 points, 0.3 percent, to 3,985.97.

For the week:

The Dow is up 199.92 points, or 1.3 percent.

The S&P 500 is up 27.57 points, or 1.6 percent.

The Nasdaq is up 66.74 points, or 1.7 percent

For the year:

The Dow is up 2,857.56 points, or 21.8 percent.

The S&P 500 is up 371.99 points, or 26.1 percent.

The Nasdaq is up 966.46 points, or 32 percent.
