How the Dow Jones industrial average fared Tuesday

The Dow Jones industrial average rose on Tuesday as investors bought companies that grow the most when the economic outlook is bright.

The Dow Jones industrial average rose 75.65 points, or 0.5 percent, to 15,300.34.

The Standard & Poor’s 500 rose 11.86 points, or 0.7 percent, to 1,652.32.

The Nasdaq composite index rose 19.43 points, or 0.6 percent, to 3,504.26.

For the week:

The Dow Jones industrial average rose 164.50 points, or 1.1 percent, to 15,300.34.

The Standard & Poor’s 500 rose 20.43 points, or 1.3 percent, to 1,652.32.

The Nasdaq composite index rose 24.88 points, or 0.7 percent, to 3,504.26.

For the year:

The Dow is up 2,196.20 points, or 16.8 percent.

The S&P 500 is up 226.13 points, or 15.9 percent.

The Nasdaq composite is up 484.75 points, or 16 percent.
