How the major stock indexes fared on Thursday

Wall Street paused Thursday as investors tried to figure out what to do next following the Federal Reserve’s decision to keep its economic stimulus in place. Stocks pulled back from their record-setting levels on Wednesday.

The Dow Jones industrial average fell 40.39 points, or 0.3 percent, to close at 15,636.55.

The Standard & Poor’s 500 index fell 3.18 points, or 0.2 percent, to 1,722.34.

The Nasdaq composite rose 5.74 points, or 0.2 percent, to 3,789.38.

For the week:

The Dow is up 260.49 points, or 1.7 percent.

The S&P 500 is up 34.35 points, or 2 percent.

The Nasdaq is up 67.20 points, or 1.8 percent.

For the year so far:

The Dow is up 2,532.41 points, or 19.3 percent.

The S&P 500 is up 296.15 points, or 20.8 percent.

The Nasdaq is up 769.87 points, or 25.5 percent.
