Many of you have reached out to us about how you might help Amadou Beah, the Sierra Leone teen we profiled, with his school fees. We’re happy you asked — and we have good news! Amadou’s fees have been completely covered for the entire school year through donations.
However, as you might imagine there are thousands of kids like Amadou who need help. To that end, we’re happy to recommend Youth Action International (YAI), a global non-profit working to rebuild war-torn African communities. Their founder, Kimmie Weeks, was born in Liberia in 1981 and knows firsthand what Amadou and many children in communities like his face. YAI has formed partnerships with organizations providing education to thousands of students in West Africa, lobbied the disarmament of over 20,000 child soldiers, and provided health care and recreation supplies to children.
