What do you want to be when you grow up? Keaton Simons knew the answer to that question at only 14. And with his hard work and the help of his multi-talented family, he was able to achieve that goal and become a famous singer.
But before Mr. Simons began to sing, he took on an acting role — as an unseen cast member in the movie Animal House. “My Mom was pregnant with me when she was in the movie,” Simons explained.
Simons began to play music before he could sing. “My very first musical instrument before I could speak was the piano. I learned to play by sight and sound repetition,” he said about watching his mother play and then copying her. “I don’t know how I was able to do it — it’s a weird thing,” he added in an interview with Channel One News.
Once he could talk, Keaton Simons took up singing and later began to experiment with other instruments. “Playing an instrument is one of the most amazing things a person can do for himself.”
Throughout school, Keaton Simons studied music. At the Evergreen State College in Washington, he received his degree in Ethnomusicology, also known as the study of World Music.
He later bounced around among record labels and did some acting. His collective skills in music, acting and song-writing made him a creative triple threat that the industry began noticing. CBS Records signed him and released his debut album, Can You Hear Me.
“There’s no reason to aim low; I have confidence in my abilities and I believe that widespread success is within my grasp,” he says on his website. “It’s cool to be with a company like CBS that feels the same way and believes in me so strongly. It reinforces my confidence.”
