Common Applications for College

Now that you've started your college search, you may be feeling overwhelmed by all of the admission applications, essays, letters of recommendation, scholarships and graduation planning. Yet, don't fret, there are common applications to help you apply to multiple schools at once.

There are a few types of "common apps" that allow you to apply to many different types of schools across the country. Whether you want to apply to a variety of schools across the U.S. or a group of schools in one state, these applications streamline the process for prospective students like you.

Check out the different types of common applications below and see if the school lists match any colleges or universities you might like to attend. Plus, check out two examples of common applications created by states for their public and private schools. Good luck!

The Common Application

In 1975 when the Common Application began, 15 schools participated in the program. Now, for the 2009-2010 school year, 392 schools are included. Now you can apply online too, making the process even easier.

Apply to 81 different colleges and universities like Duke, Harvard and Brandeis University in an online application. The site has a simple break down for each college and the requirements for admission.
