We spoke with a professor at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York City who has guided and counseled style savvy students for the past 25 years. We've taken her best advice and put it together for you.
First things first, do you know the multitude of career possibilities in the fashion industry? It's not all designers and editors -- there are many jobs out there, some without the hype, but just as chic. FIT has 35 majors alone -- imagine the possibilities! Plus, what matters most is finding something that could lead to your dream job, whether that's becoming Anna Wintour, Michael Kors or running Mercedes Benz Fashion Week.
What does that mean for you? Research fashion jobs and majors. Read magazines -- not just Vogue read fashion blogs and trade magazines too. WWD is a good place to start, they know the business of fashion, rather than the consumer end, which you probably already know.
