By making yourself visible to "Friends Only," through Privacy Settings and limiting your profile information, you decrease the potential for a dangerous situation. By posting a home address, you not only put yourself in danger, but your family as well. Choosing to post either an IM screen name or email address that isn't your name is a much safer option while still allowing people to contact you.
