First Things First: Elbows on the Table

The biggest part of ettiquette comes down to being considerate of others. But there are some traditional 'rules' that might be helpful when it comes to being a charming dinner guest. We talked to Lizzie Post, great-great-grand-daughter of etiquette expert Emily Post to get the scoop on modern manners.

And what did Lizzie have to say about elbows?

"It is actually fine to have your elbows on the table -- after a meal is finished and your plate has been cleared," she explained.

The idea behind this rule is to discourage "people from hunching over a plate, shoveling food in" but it's perfectly acceptable to "lean forward" if you'd like to be a little closer to whomever your talking with over dinner.
