Are You Safe on the Streets?

Updated: June 2, 2008

By Cindy Lin

It's the leading cause of death for young people aged 15-20. According to the National Highway Transportation and Safety Administration, there is a traffic death every 13 minutes, with more than 8,000 young people involved in such fatal accidents every year, and more than 300,000 injured.

Ashley Biersach knows firsthand the results of unsafe driving. Two of her best friends were killed in 2002 when Ashley's friend lost control of the car on the way to school. Ashley's body was crushed from the waist down, and she lost her leg.

Though the accident made life a lot tougher for Ashley, she still wanted to share her experience and make something positive out of it. She teamed up with Driver's Edge, a program designed to teach young people how to deal with hazards on the road. Now Ashley takes her message of driver safety and awareness to other teens in an effort to prevent other tragedies.

So... how safely do you drive? Take the quiz and see!
