Get the Word Out

The old saying goes, "It's not what you know but who you know." And it's pretty much true-- at least when it comes to nailing down an internship interview. Of course, it's possible to get a gig on your own, but having a connection can greaten the odds (especially for really competitive internships in media).

What to do: Tell everyone that you're looking for a gig. That includes teachers, parents, friends, your parents' friends, your friends' parents, and, of course, your guidance counselor. He gets notices for things like internships and summer programs that you could ask him to set aside just for you.
