You can download a free family tree template from the Web, or you can draw your own. Either way, you'll need one to keep track of all the relatives you're about to discover. Start with yourself and work backwards-- your siblings, your folks, your grandparents, and so on.

If you're lucky enough to have your grandparents still around, they're great sources of information. While you might not remember your great-grandparents' first names, they will and can help you fill in the blanks.
