Born in Monroeville, Alabama, Harper Lee was best known for her novel, To Kill A Mockingbird, which was published in 1960.As the daughter of a journalist and editor who's father later became a lawyer and senator, Lee was always surrounded by law and writing. Therefore, it's no surprise her famous work of fiction is narrated by the daughter of a lawyer and focuses on a high profile lawsuit.
Over the last 50 years her novel has never gone out of print and has consistently been praised as one of the most celebrated works of fiction in American literature. Harper is not only known for her writing, however, she was also the childhood friend and neighbor of author Truman Capote.
Both authors figured in each other's writing and have been known to remain friends. Despite Lee's notoriety as an author and friend of Capote, she rarely grants interviews and hasn't published any more books since her successful debut.
