What was last season like for you?
Ben Agosto: Last season was a roller coaster. Starting it off with moving to a new city with new coaches and then getting injured and then coming back. Coming back at Worlds in good shape and feeling like we were skating better than ever was such a great feeling.
Tanith Belbin: The world scene of ice dancing last season was a bit of a mess. There were so many injuries and withdrawals; it was really anyone's game by the time Worlds came around. We just wanted to prove that we were back, fighting, and that this injury hadn't stopped us from the progression that we had begun making with our coaches in the beginning of the season.
It was a big decision to move to Pennsylvania. What were the biggest sacrifices you had to make?
Tanith Belbin: I feel like the biggest sacrifice is definitely personal. We had roots in Detroit, and I still would call it my home above anything else right now. I had developed friendships in Detroit that I had never had before and I'd underestimated the impact that a major move can have on your life as an adult.
I do''t want to make a big effort to make new friends and find a new best friend in Pennsylvania because I have friends, I have the best friends in the world, they just happen to be in Detroit.
It was scary as a career move. To be this far along and make such a huge change is a risk. We felt like we had become a little bit stagnant in our progress as skaters and we wanted to push ourselves a little bit further and put ourselves in a completely unfamiliar atmosphere with coaches who didn't know what to expect from us but had a clear goal and a clear path for us. I think we had just become a little bit complacent. We were just too comfy in Detroit.
So we made the move, and we couldn't be happier. The progress that we've made is amazing. To have improved so much at this point in our careers has really surprised us. So now who knows when we'll stop competing?
