Kara Patterson, Track and Field

Kara Estelle Patterson was born April 10, 1986, in Seattle, Washington. She currently attends Purdue University and has become a record-breaking phenomenon in women's U.S. javelin.

"Patterson, on her sixth and final throw, found the perfect angle into a strong headwind and let her body take over and ... boom, an American record by more than eight feet," reported USA Today.

Patterson's athletic career is very impressive for her young age. In 2008, she was a member of the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team, after winning the U.S. Team Trials in Eugene, Ore. (6/11-14), and surpassing the U.S. Olympic Trials record with her mark of 58.44 meters (191-09). She also earned NCAA All-America honors with a fifth-place showing at the national championships during the same year, according to the Purdue University website.

In addition to her hard work in track and field, Kara Patterson "enjoys art, glass blowing, reading, spontaneous travel and movies." She's also majoring in nutrition, fitness and health.
