Locksley

If there’s one band who can revive doo-wop music with a punk rock spin, Locksley will have fans lining up in matching tuxedo jackets. Combining rhythm and blues group vocal harmonies with a splash of British Invasion punk, this Brooklyn band transplanted from Wisconsin, masters their high-spirited nostalgic genre in tracks like “The Whip” and “Darling, It’s True.”

Formed in 2003, Jesse Laz (vocals/guitar), Aaron Collins (bass/vocals), Kai Kennedy (lead guitar/vocals) and Sam Bair (drums) moved to New York in pursuit of music glory at the historical CBGB. After a few years of commercial success with their debut self-titled album, the band released Garage Sale, and Don’t Make Me Wait and toured with acts like The Hives, Ok Go and She Wants Revenge. In 2008, Jesse’s brother Jordan replaced bassist Aaron Collins.

Locksley’s latest release, Be In Love, a more refined and sophisticated version of their earlier albums, is filled with playful beats and melodies reminiscent of The Strokes that will have you wishing for a vintage mic to croon over. To get your taste of this fun band — check out the songs below.

Lyrics for "Darling, It's True"
By Locksley

Baby dry your eyes, I'm going to find a reason why
I'm going now even though your arms are the place I know
So if I feel you I'm just dreaming
Maybe it's because, oh baby I'm leaving
Baby I'm grieving
Well I know your cryin' won't match mine
Darling something you should (know know know)
Hate to but I have to (go go go)
Wish it wasn't but (oh oh oh) It's true
Miss you darling oh (yeah yeah yeah)
Think about you every (night and day)
Forget about you no (way-ay-ay) it's true
Girl, I love you
Every time I think of you I get the feeling like I don't know what to do
What if I've forgotten you?
So I take your picture off my wall. My memory's not bad at all
Oh can you see, or have you forgotten me?
I heave a sigh to keep from crying

chorus

Someday you'll find your piece of mind
Wish you could find some piece of mind
You're crying
Darling, it's true: girl, I love you

Chorus

Lyrics for "Days of Youth"
By Locksley

And your body full of stars, constellations made of scars
Recalls a time when you were young, body baking in the sun
And how I hope that you can see I see you innocent and free
That's the way that you will stay with the passing of your days
Be in love with you tonight beside an old house full of light

City cold and far away, can be anyone when day comes down
I heard your voice, it took me home and I no longer need to feel
Love is keeping me from something that I didn't think was real
We were walking, we were talking of our wounds that wouldn't heal
And we agreed that just the need for love had something of appeal
Be in love with you tonight beside an old house full of light

City cold and far away, can be anyone when day comes down
And I'll try to remember you, when we were brand new
In our days of youth
Has it truly been this long since we were laughing out a song
And our hands still seem to fit, tied tight into the others grip
Take the sadness from your gaze and all the bad thoughts I'll erase
Hold your body to the sun, until the sun has come and gone
Be in love with you tonight beside an old house full of light
City cold and far away, can be anyone when day comes down

Be in love.

Lyrics for "The Whip"
By Locksley

She's coming home to me because I said: "I'm lonely, darling please"
But instead of waiting, I go flying off to you
Why? Well, just because.
I arrive when you're gone so I wait at your door.
You pull up in some guy's car around four
I punch him. Kiss and carry you inside.
Why? Well, just because.
Oh baby, do you like me that way?
There's something 'bout you that makes me want to say:
"I don't mind, I don't mind, I don't mind, no!
Oh baby, I like it that way."
She's coming home to me because I said: "I'm lonely, darling please"
But instead of waiting, I go flying off to you
Why? Well, just because.
Oh, it's 'cos I love you
And all of those crazy things you make me do
I don't mind if you want me to
Oh baby, 'cos I love you
