Black Gold
Hear it Now
In 2006, band members Eric Ronick (lead vocals, keyboard guitar) and Than Luu (drums, percussion, backing vocals) started recording in a Brooklyn, NY studio after touring with Panic at the Disco! "The very first time that we went into Eric's studio together, we ended up writing and recording 'Run' in just a few hours," Luu recalls. "We listened back to what we'd done at the end of the night and realized, 'This really works!'" Ronick adds, "Writing that song with Than was a defining moment.'"
"Run," is on their debute album, Rush which was released in 2009. Since then, this indie rock twosome has gained success on tour and on TV, with their songs played on top networks from MTV, to the CW. Yet, for Black Gold, creating music is about the process, "each song must be the best song, at its core, before we'll bring in the production and the orchestration and the instrumentation," said Ronick. This classic throwback by recording with their guitar, piano and voices speaks to their ability to employ different styles of music on their album.
"No style or genre is off limits. We get a real kick out of taking from different artists, different periods, and putting our spin on it." Said Ronick, adding, "Somehow we ended up with something cohesive and that sounds, undeniably, like us." In addition to their eclectic influences, the band draws on many different themes like relationships, faith and what can be lost. "Each song has a story to it," explained Luu.
