Kina Grannis

Hear it Now

Born and raised in Mission Viejo, California Kina began performing in front of stuffed animals at the age 4. "I've loved singing since I was super tiny - I always dreamed of singing for the rest of my life even though I felt like that was not allowed." As she grew up, Kina started writing. "I kept doing it more and more - it became a bigger dream," explained Kina Grannis. A bigger dream that is now a reality. Kina is a singer songwriter who plays acoustic guitar. If you needed to categorize her she would fall under the genre of acoustic folk pop. Her influences include James Taylor, Imogen Heap, and Bon Iver to name a few.

Growing up Kina describes herself as a "wanderer."

"High school was a weird time. I spent a lot of my time people watching and bringing my guitar to school." She did do well in school and tried very hard. She was a member of the cross-country team and part of the national honor society. School was always important to her. Her advice to young musicians is to hone your craft and not to be afraid, "share it as much as possible." Kina's YouTube Channel is an extraordinary example of how sharing your craft can garner success and help an artist reach as many people as possible.

Kina is looking forward to writing more songs for a new album, but if you can't wait for her new album to come out I am sure Stairwells can hold you over until then. She is touring in Europe, South East Asia, and Australia this month but plans to be back in the States by the spring. Check out her website for tour dates near you. -- Jessica Rojas
