Legend of the Fall

Hear it Now

The pop-alternative band Legend of the Fall, has become legendary in their own right, by playing shows across the state or in their grandpa's garage. And, they've also released three EPs since 2007. When we spoke with lead singer Levi Alam, he shared some insight on his band of brothers, JD Alam (Vocals, Guitar), Skyler Alam (Drums, Vocals), Madison Alam (Bass, Vocals) and Casey Jones Alam (Guitar, Vocals) from Ridgefield Park, NJ. So how did this fivesome begin playing concerts across New Jersey? Turns out, the Alams not only grew up with music, playing in a band is in their blood.

"I've always been into music," said Levi Alam. " My dad was in a band with his brothers. Dad got me a keyboard when I was really little and it started escalating from there. I started writing songs. My oldest brother, JD always wanted a band and soon I was literally writing songs every day." Soon everything began to fall into place for the Alam boys. After JD sang at his high school prom, one of his classmates approached him about a Halloween gig. Levi remembered the JD's reaction when he came home to tell his brothers: "I know we don't really have a band, but we have a show."

They had one month to learn a bunch of songs, but their excitement and passion for Fall Out Boy covers came to no avail -- the show was cancelled. Yet, the Alam brothers didn't slow down, they played church events, the Spring Fling at Rutgers University and even compete in a Battle of the Bands. Their determination paid off as they learned how to perform well on stage. "We really wanted it to happen so we started practicing," said Levi after explaining some of the pitfalls of earlier shows. "Soon we fell in love with it."

In July 2010, the band released their album Sell Outs, a collection peppered with pop-infused tracks that mix themes of hope and humor. "Every song that we write has some sort of meaning. Even if it's silly," said Levi. "Everything is true and has a purpose. And maybe that purpose is to make someone laugh." Aside from their infectious melodies and rock harmonies, the band's genuine effort to make music they believe in as a group is evident in songs like "Step Up" and "Scene Girls." On the band's website, LegendoftheFall.com, JD says, "The one thing we promised each other is we'll never let go of the fact that everything needs to have purpose. We don't do empty meaningless music."

Whether you need a song to play over and over again with your friends, or a good laugh -- whatever the case may be, Legend of the Fall has it all going for them. Listen to songs and check out photos of the band below.
