Oren Lavie
Hear it Now
There's more to Oren Lavie than meets the ear. He's not just another notable singer-songwriter -- Lavie's a philanthropist and renowned playwright too. Before hitting the American music scene in 2008, when his song "Her Morning Elegance" was picked up for a Chevy Malibu commercial, Mr. Lavie wrote and directed a play in London at the age of 21. Not only was the production well received, Time Out London hailed the play as one of the best five shows during its run in 1999.
And, in the States, Oren Lavie is now offering free downloads of his music as part of Amie Street's Download To Make A Difference campaign, which will give funds to a non-profit in Israel called Magen David Adom, an organization dedicated to providing emergency medical services.
Growing up in Tel-Aviv, Israel, Lavie won an award for a play he wrote for the Israeli Fringe Theater Festival. Later he moved to Berlin, Germany where he wrote the album, The Opposite Side of the Sea. Now, you'll find him on MTV, Vh1 and even performing on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Though his success in America is very different from his life as a playwright - we're sure Lavie is one artist you'll enjoy on your iPod, on the page and who knows, maybe even on the stage.
