Ryan Beatty
Hear it Now
"I've been singing my whole life," explained Ryan Beatty in a phone interview, "but I never really thought of it as a career until my sister started joking around with me. She'd say 'we're going to make you famous!'" Beatty, who has four older sisters and one younger brother, was finally convinced to start a YouTube channel in 2008. "My first video was a Broadway song -- Suddenly Seymour -- and in two years, it's crazy to see what's happened."
"I'm working on my own music, I was at the Teen Choice Awards, Justin Beiber covered my song. But it's been really natural, every day there's a new surprise." When he started that YouTube channel, "if someone told" him that all this would happen, "I wouldn't have believed it." And no, his sister doesn't let him forget that she's the one who pushed him towards his success.
Through the YouTube channel he found management, and that led to an EP in July. "I did covers but I wanted it to be more than that." Now, he's working on a full-length album and "hopefully people will like it. There are so many things going on in the day to write about -- beyond girls. I grew up listening to James Taylor, Stevie Wonder, Kenny Loggins -- just good, soulful music" and he emulates them. His current favorite artists are John Mayer and Jason Mraz ("probably the best show I've ever seen -- he's more than just the song he's famous for!").
