Stealing Heather
Hear it Now
For Joshua Aaron of Stealing Heather, making an album is more than spending time in the studio and then celebrating with a huge release party -- writing, composing, recording and mixing the band's new alternative rock album, Your Mistake has been four years in the making and will culminate in a modest party of 200 people at the Viper Room in Los Angeles.
"This is my art, this is what I would listen to and what I believe in," said Aaron in a phone interview about his "real deep love of music." For years this guitarist and songwriter knew what he was going to do, but it all began when he begged his mom for piano lessons in the third grade. Since then, he played the alto saxophone in fourth grade and later he added the guitar to his repertoire. Though he studied classical piano for years, his teacher recognized his love for rock music and even got him Van Halen's 5150 so he could play "Dreams" for a piano recital.
Over the years many people supported Joshua Aaron's talent. In junior high he had a teacher who gave him passes during study hall to practice piano. "He was an amazing guy," Aaron said of his teacher. After high school, Joshua Aaron attended the Cleveland Institute of Music. Since then he's been making music and compulsively watching CSPAN to satisfy his other interest, politics. In fact, Aaron wholeheartedly believes in keeping up with current events and banding together for political action. He also believes each person should have an independent point of view, he conveys his perspective in a blog at StealingHeather.com.
Flash forward -- it's nearly April 23, 2010 -- the day of Stealing Heather's album release party and Joshua Aaron is getting ready for the debut of his work with band members Ian Koff (Keys/Synth), George Bohdan (Bass), Jake Perry (Lead Guitar) and David Beck (Drums). When asked about his new album Aaron revealed with a laugh, "Once the album was complete, we realized this whole album takes place in one night between two people." Following the ups and downs of two people in love, Your Mistake is an ode to the challenges and triumphs of love, with each song representing a different element of a relationship -- or even more basically, a series of conversations.
What's great about the album is that it appeals to anyone in a relationship. "Even if you have a fight with your boyfriend, you can work it out," explained Aaron. And, ultimately, he said of the two subjects in the story of his album, they discover, "no matter where we end up, we should be together."
