The Icarus Youth

Hear it Now

"This is exactly the kind of music we want to be making" explained The Icarus Youth's frontman Will Whiting in a phone interview. The band, which came together about a year ago in Brighton, on the southern coast of England also includes Paul Mason (bass), Jay Bone (drums), and Jam Lindsay (lead guitar). All four contribute to that sound, though Whiting was the one who brought them all together.

"I had come back from traveling, and I had my heart set on finding the right people -- real live musicians." Though Whiting "was lucky enough to grow up in a family that valuded music -- in a guitar around the campfire sort of way" and he had rapped and worked on more produced music, the vision for Icarus was different. Once he found the right people by going ot shows and holding an audition, the four "got into a practice room and starting jamming, day and night."

The songs here (which are exclusive versions from their 3-track EP) "The City," "We Could Have it All" and "Falling" are the results of that work. The music, energetic and a little edgy with influences that include Michael Jackson and Jamiroquai, "has quirk" but also "a positive vibe that can lift people up."

For now, they're playing as many gigs as possible and planning for performances at festivals around the U.K., as well as keeping their eye on a possible tour around Europe, and then, eventually, the United States. "We have big plans," shared Whiting. The ultimate goal is "being able to reach everyone -- to bring our music to the world."

"We want people to realize that whoever they are...they have something great inside them."
