Madam Speaker: Nancy Pelosi
Updated: May 12, 2008
After twenty years as a congresswoman from California, Nancy Pelosi was sworn in as U.S. Speaker of the House in January 2007. She is highest-ranking elected woman in American history, and second in line to the President. As Speaker, she presides over the House of Representatives while still serving her district as congresswoman.
As if that wasn't enough history-making, she was also the first Californian and Italian-American to become Speaker of the House. In her non-political life, Speaker Pelosi has five kids and seven grandkids.
Watch Chris Browne's interview with this trailblazing woman and learn more about her important place in history.
