Caucus vs. Primary

Each state has either a caucus or primary. Some states like Iowa, Wyoming and New Mexico, prefer caucuses because they encourage participation through gatherings. A caucus can last an hour or more and include discussion and debate about the candidates. Primary elections, held in California, New York and many other states involve a straight-forward vote.
