The letters arrive
In June 2002, the letters came. We opened each one slowly. When we saw the green card, we were all exited and happy. We could stay in the States as long as we wanted. We have our own house now and a new member of the family. I became involved in many school activities including drama, choir, and student council. I volunteered for community service and joined the Diversity Committee. I was even accepted into the National Honors Society.
My parents are very supportive and encourage my involvement and help as much as they can with the little money that we have. I've seen them sacrifice so much, so that my sister and I can be happy and live the life they never had. I'm very grateful for all they've done to get us where we are today.
If there's one thing my life has taught me, it's to appreciate everything I have-- my family, my friends, my education and my opportunities. I do my best to live through that, and I try to make the most I can out my life.
