Independence

The Independence Party, a fiscally moderate, pro-gun rights, pro-civil rights group, is the only third party to have had both a governor and a senator. Former Minnesota governor Jesse Ventura and his supporters left the Reform Party after its embrace of conservative commentator Pat Buchanan, and launched the Independence Party in 2000. Ventura appointed an Independence Party member to serve out two months of a Senate term left open by the death of the incumbent. The party is no longer a national organization, operating on a state-by-state basis.

The "party" is actually a group of separate state parties and does not nominate one presidential candidate.
