McCollum v. Board of Education (1948)

Case: Religious groups, supported by the local school board, offered voluntary classes in religion to public school students during the school day. Classes were taught on school grounds, during the school day, and permission slips were required.

Arguments: The school board argued classes taught on a permission-slip basis could not be regulated under separation of church and state guidelines. The opposition maintained religious teachings didn't have a place on public school grounds.
