Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer v. Grokster (2004)
Case: Movie studio MGM sued peer-to-peer network Grokster for providing free online access to copyrighted content.Arguments: Grokster argued it had no knowledge of infringement and did not monitor or control copyrighted material, therefore liability of damages could not be placed. MGM argued that one who distributes copyrighted material is liable for infringement and damages.
