Inaugural Ball

Traditionally the inaugural ball is the final element of the inaugural events, however, many presidents have had any number of balls held in their honor around the inauguration. In 2005, President Bush attended nine inaugural balls held in his honor. There is a grand history of balls dating back to the week after George Washington's inauguration in 1789. Typically, these celebrations consist of speeches, toasts, food and dancing.

This year, the Presidential Inaugural Committee (PIC) has planned 10 balls in honor of President-elect Barack Obama. These formal galas will be held from January 15-24.
