Proposition 19

Proposition 19

Updated: September 29, 2011

California voters will have a chance on Tuesday to decide if their state will become the first to legalize, and charge a tax on, marijuana bought for use by individuals.

If the proposition passes, it will be legal for anyone 21 or older to carry up to an ounce of marijuana without being punished. It will also allow people to grow the plant and will give local governments the right to sell it and tax it.
