Take Action One Cup FAQ

Updated: June 2, 2008

Got questions about entering Take Action One Cup? Well, we've got answers.

Q: I don't have Channel One at my school, can I still enter?
A: No. You must attend a Channel One school to enter this competition.

Q: How old do I have to be to enter?
A: You must be 13 or older to submit an entry for the contest. If you're under 13, another member of your group who is 13 or older can enter the contest for you. If no one in your group is 13 or older, a teacher or an advisor must enter the competition on your group's behalf.

Q: Can I put music or video clips in my submission?
A: No. Unless permission is given in writing from its owner, any music, video, or other content that has been not created by members of your group cannot be used in your entry. So, if your essay or video contains any material that belongs to someone else and you haven't gotten permission to use it, we won't be able to accept your entry. (This means you can't put a clip from "Hannah Montana" or a Fall Out Boy song in your video.)

Q: Can my parents or teacher help me make my video?
A: Contest entries must be recorded and edited by members of your group with VERY little help from parents or teachers.

Q: What if I don't want anyone else to see my video?
A: By entering this contest you are agreeing to have your video and essay posted on the internet along with your name, picture and any information you tell us about yourself. If you don't want other people to see your submission then don't enter the contest!

Q: Do I have to fill out all the fields on the entry form?
A: Yes. Otherwise, we won't be able to accept your entry. So be sure to follow all the directions!

Q: Can I submit more than one video?
A: No. Only one essay and one video will be accepted from each group.

Q: Can I be a member of more than one group?
A: No. Members of one group cannot belong to another group.

Q: Can I help another group with their entry?
A: No. Only members of a group can work on their entry.

Q: What happens if I win the Grand Prize? A: If your group wins the Grand Prize, all group members must agree to be interviewed, filmed, and photographed, and their parents or guardians will have to sign a release. So get your smile camera-ready!

Q: If my group wins the Grand Prize does that mean I get to intern at Channel One News?
A: Maybe. Whether or not you get to intern depends on your city's laws and regulations your school district's rules. If your team wins but we're unable to make your internship happen, we'll come up with a different prize for your team.
