But if you're not, you might be surprised to hear that almost half a million people were watching an online event last week. What was it? The League of Legends Season 2 Playoffs. That's right, a professional video game tournament for what Forbes Magazine has called "the most popular video game in the world."

Teams from all over the world competed to move to the next level of eSports competition and the event was so popular, their servers crashed a few times during the competition. eSports are already popular in many parts of the world, and the popularity of the finals this week have only confirmed speculation that the United States is not far behind on this trend.

But the games are not without controversy. For one thing, it's more difficult to determine if someone is cheating in an online competition than at a standard sporting event, plus, a failed or even slow internet connection could mean an early end for any player, regardless of their skill level.
