Gary: It felt like a pep rally. But instead of rooting for their sports teams, the students at Coventry Middle School in Ohio were rooting for their candidates. Students faced off to debate who they think should be the next president and why.
Kailee Evans: My name is Kailee Evans, and I am representing President Barack Obama. I believe he should have four more years because when he came into office our country was a mess. But he put our economy back on track and he has great ideas, which he should have four more years to make it happen.
Eamon Schaeffer: My name is Eamon Schaeffer, and I am a supporter of Governor Romney. Governor Romney has a five-step program to improve our country’s economy. These are Governor Romney’s main focuses on our country, and one of them is energy independence. And he focuses on increasing access to domestic energy resources such as coal, oil and natural gas.
Gary: Ohio is a swing state because the state’s electoral vote could swing either Democrat or Republican. The latest polls there show President Obama with a slight advantage over Mitt Romney.
Dilan Raines: Social Issues are the most important to me. I don’t believe that abortion is right and I also think that same-sex marriage is wrong.
Emily Mungo: One of the issues that I selected is education because I think the future of our country depends on the education of our youth.
Gary: And then they voted in Channel One’s mock election, OneVote…turning their voices into votes.
