Patch It Up

If even the thought of a mosquito starts to make you kind of itchy, than this idea for the next big thing might be for you.

The Kite Patch is a sticker that makes you invisible to mosquitoes. And while that might come in handy at your next backyard barbecue or hiking trip, the real beauty lies in what that means for stopping illnesses that are spread by the bite of a mosquito, like the West Nile virus and malaria. It works by “disrupting the mosquito’s carbon dioxide neurons” which essentially means that it messes up the insect’s navigation system. It’s also a non-toxic way to avoid getting bitten.

All you’ve got to do is place the patch on your clothing, and it works for up to 48 hours. So what do you think? Are you ready to patch it up to protect yourself from the bite of a mosquito? Vote in the poll and tell us what you think.

I love the idea of that! People in Africa get sick from those blood suckin’ insects every day. I think they should reduce the prices to about 2 bucks cause folks in Africa don’t have much money these days.

I don’t agree does it seem weird that something that small can hide us its like a piece of paper in front of us! there might be chemicals or gases in it that hide us and it might make us worse

I think it’s a great idea because its mobile it can be hidden by a pants leg or sleeve also has no smell, the only thing I’m worried about is the chemicals doing something to your skin.

This is truly amazing. People die everyday from malaria. This could save hundreds of lives. When I go to Europe next summer, I am so bringing some with me. I am going to hand them out to people and help them. :)

Though I’ve never gotten anything more serious than an annoying itch from a bite, I know that in some places the chance of getting sick is a lot higher. Considering some of the things a mosquito can transfer, I think that these will be a lifesaver in areas where mosquito-borne illnesses are more common. Literally.

Yes, we think the KITE patch is the Next Big Thing because it can save millions of lives that are taken away by diseases caused by mosquitoes. Even though we think the KITE patch is a good idea, it might not be a good idea to test it in an area already infected by sickness. The patch could work the opposite way and attract mosquitoes instead of repel them.

A non-toxic, scent free, non-greasy product that will stop not only my entire body from itching over the summer, but will also help children, men, and women all around the world. I bet this will become a new popular item for charities and organizations to raise support and money for so they can give it to children in mosquito transmitted disease stricken areas.

This patch is a bad idea because one of the worlds biggest problems is overpopulation. This device will help save many lives, which will make overpopulation even worse. Plus it is unfashionable.

    Reply
    1. Mady

They could come up with a new design to make it more fashionable if that’s what you would want. Would it really help solve overpopulation or would not wearing it cause under-population?

      Reply
      1. Caleb R.

Actually, the world is in a bad state because of overpopulation. Overpopulation is caused by the re population rate being higher than the death rate. This patch would cause the death rate to sink even lower. Eventually, the world will not have enough resources such as living space, food, oxygen, and water. We will start to not have enough resources and the kids in Africa will have an even smaller amount of food than they do now, and everyone will start to die out until there is a reasonable rate of humans left on Earth, quite less than there is now. So you can use the patch and eventually everyone will start to die, or not use the patch, let nature take it’s path, and still allow the earth for enough resources for the quite large amount of humans living on the Earth.

This would disrupt the ecosystem: mosquitoes wont get their nutrients, and then organisms who feed on mosquitoes would have a harder time finding food. This could possibly affect our diet, and we wouldn’t be able to feed on anything except plants

I know that it could help the people in Africa, but sooner or later the company or person that makes them isn’t going have enough money to make them anymore.

You may think that but maybe they are billionaires right now and have enough money to make these…maybe they make them by themselves and don’t need anybody’s help.

Maybe the people who are making these kite patches are making them without help…or maybe they’re millionaires that just feel sorry for the kids in Africa that are dieing. This is just a thought. You could be right…maybe they will run out of money and stop making them. You never know the exact events of tomorrow, or the next day, or next week.

People in Africa could definitely use these…they should reduce the prices to like, a dollar because people in Africa don’t have a lot of money. The majority of the people in the U.S. are sooooo self-centered these days that most people don’t even care what happens to anybody else besides themselves. I think that is really sad because these kids in Africa need somebody to help them. I’m not accusing any of you guys of being self-centered, but there are a lot of people who are out there that wouldn’t care at all if more than 1,000 kids died in Africa each day because of diseases from mosquitoes. I feel really sorry for the families who lost their children.

A lot of people are dieing in Africa related to starvation and dirty water home to thousands of microbes that eat you from the inside out. Instead, they should make a small cost effective water filter that is more than reusable.
