The Forgotten War

After a decade of war, the Congolese conflict remains one of the world’s worst and most enduring humanitarian disasters.

The crisis, sparked when Rwandan refugees and rebels flooded into the area in the 1990s, has left an estimated 4 million dead. And despite a 2002 cease-fire, more than 1,000 people are still dying each day from war-related disease, hunger and violence.
