Scott: We are traveling far again for this week’s Next Big Thing! It is a type of new sport being played in europe. It involves 64 squares, 32 pieces, 2 players and one ring — and yes, you have to see it to believe it. It is called chessboxing. That is right, chess…boxing.
These heavyweight champs don’t just try to knock each other out in the ring, they are also trying to knock each other out on the chessboard. There are eleven alternating rounds. Players can win either with a knockout, or with a checkmate — whichever comes first.
“Check mate. Brilliant!”
Scott: Supporters say this new sport defies a couple of common sterotypes: one, that boxers aren’t smart. And two, that chess players aren’t tough. Because, let’s face it, when it comes to chessboxing, you better be both!
