Scott: And now it is time for the first Next Big Thing of the year! But first, let’s see what you thought of the last one of 2013.
We told you about the floor tiles that generate electricity when students walk on them. Did you think hallway energy is the next big thing?
Well, 64% of you said, ‘Yes, let’s walk it out!’ But 36% of you said, ‘No, I’ll sit this one out.’
Now this week’s NBT will help make sure you don’t pick the wrong spot to take a tiger snooze. Students at the National Polytechnic Institute in Mexico City developed an anti-sleep device that helps you know whether or not you are too sleepy to drive.
The device, which is a prototype, recognizes your face and looks for signs that you are getting sleepy. A screen will alert the driver if they are falling asleep. And after three alerts, the device will activate a sound to wake up the driver. And, just in case, the anti-sleep device checks up on you every 60 seconds.
So, what do you think? Is the anti-sleep device really the next big thing? Well, head to Channelone.com and vote!
